I only started to like electric guitars after watching C playing it in the Andy Hui & Hocc concert. She looked really cool there. B) And so happy with her guitar!

I hope at 25, I am not too old to start learning it. :shy:

hehe it's never too old to learn!
I was quite inspired by Ah C playing the electric guitar too. I like the silver one she usually uses. I think it's a Gibson.

I like the one she uses for 有得做 (Yao Duk Jou) song better. :P

A few years back...I wanted to learn how to play the guitar as well... but my mother poured 'one big bowl of cold water' on me. So since then I've stopped thinking about it. Maybe I should learn to play some musical instruments before my fingers are too old to move properly.

Hehee... I think it would be so much fun if all of us can "jam" together... hahaa..

That will make a lot of noise pollution!! :P  :D

After I started watching HOCC play her guitar, I started to have interest in it. I got a guitar but haven't had the chance to get any lessons yet.

Maybe you can get a chord book and start learning the basics first? My friend was telling me you can learn the chords by yourself first then take lessons.

Joy, what guitar are you playing? classical, acoustic?

Joy

I have an acoustic

irishblue
02-01-2005, 11:26 PM
ooh maybe that's why. Acoustic are steel strings and they have higher action than electric guitars, that means the strings are further away from the guitar tt part, so gotta press harder.

But I read that the action not as high as acoustic. So don't need to press that hard. But then again, I don't own either of them, sooo... don't take my word for it haha >_<

hee hee. i love guitars.

i started learning when i was twenty, and seeing as i had no idea which way was the left handed or right handed way to hold a guitar, i started off with some lessons first.

had enough after ten lessons, and then just mucked about on my own with some books. i think if you have played an instrument before it makes it a lot easier to learn...

eh, my mum thinks that i'm insane cos i say that if i have a kid, i'm going to teach them guitar from young. cos guitar is for young wild 'uns, if you know what i mean.

Hey wussy: never too old to learn! I am older than you and just learnt it seriously last year!

I don't think it's hard to learn guitar yourself. Here're some more information. And please feel free to discuss anything about guitar at this page on this forum:

i went for guitar lessons when i was abt 16 --that'd be 2 years ago-- for abt a month or so & then the Os came & ate me whole, so i'd to give it up. didnt really touch the guitar for abt the entire duration of jc until late last year.

ive got a pretty gd acoustic one but im definitely more interested in an electric guitar. hahah. i think im gonna get one soon, but anyway, it's okay to learn by yourself. just get the chords right & practise changing chords. once u get past the stage of having to think which chord is which, ure ready to jam away! hahaha. unfortunately i am not veery nimble myself at this point in time.. lack of practise!!

ahah well ive always wanted to start a band --woohoo. heh-- someday.. i guess that'll happen AFTER i become an indisputed god at the guitar. anyone interested in joining my band? we could..err..do covers of hocc's songs & write hocc-themed songs!! hahahah.

ive gone absolute bonkers. ;)

i'm crazy about hocc and guitar.......

i 've both acoustic and electric guitar now, but when i only had acoustic (steel) , i feel rather frustrated and had no confidence in playing guitar coz it's too difficult to play it well unless u can press the string very tight . 2 years ago i bought an electric , it gave me surprise that i could have great progress after practising by electric guitar for only a short time . ......

After that , i've set up a girl band and very glad that we had some performances in sclool ,surely we 've played some HOCC songs, hahaha~~~~~~so excited!

i'm appreciated my electric guitar very much!!!!!!!!!

i'm now 24 ,absolutely agree" nerver too old to learn"!!!!!! yeah~~~~~

I guess most fans here are crazy about guitar too... of course we are all crazy about hocc!!

I think for acoustic guitar, once you get over the period of finger hurting (b/c of pressing the strings), you'll find that you don't really need to press that tight. Barre chords could be fairly challenging though...

wow, you have your own band!! Must be so fun!

totally agree"Barre chords could be fairly challenging though..." for acoustic steel guitar ,HAHA~~~~~~~

but practise makes perfect , just as hocc said in the song"結他教室" ,
so we should bear in mind to practise more and more ...... yeah~~~~~~~ ;)

my own band has broken up coz some of us have graduated .......so i 'm planning to set up a new one in the near future........

i wonder if any goo wants to join in? let's play hocc 's songs together and have fun ! that must be great! HAHAHA (i'm so excited now)

well ,i'm now studying in china.....i 'll go back to hk in AUG this year(i graduate this year)

many ppl say it's better to learn acoustic first ,but in my opinion ,
learning electric guitar may be more easily to pick up
if u learn acoustic first ,u may feel great frustration that u may give up learning eventully......
u can also start to get the chords right with an electric guitar :D

i think the most important thing is to practise nomatter u're learning acoustic or electric......... ;)

Vancouver is 溫哥華 in Canada. Not many hocc fans are from Vancouver, or at least they are quiet so that I don't know them....

I think most fans who post at this forum are from Singapore or Malaysia.

Hi all, I'm new here. Just want to say that I learned the guitar all because of HOCC. Not only because I want to be like her, but because also through her, I learn that nothing is too late and only if you try, something good will come out from the journey. Anyways, nice to meet y'all and happy JAMMING.

btw, I have an IBANEZ acoustic guitar so far. PEACE.

hihi~ this is my first post to the Jam Studio section :shy: I've been interested in learning guitar since like 5 years ago~ Then like 3 years ago (time flies!!!), I finally got an accoustic guitar (a cheap one, coz I don't know whether I manage to learn it well...), practiced for a little while then gave up :P It's been sitting in my room, moulded for another 2 years :shy: Lately, b/c of hocc, I started to pick it up again... A good beginner's guitar hm... Something cheap and something that sounds good! Haha.. nah.. I don't have plenty of money to chuck around so that's why I said that. I'll tell you what I got when I first started..

My first electric guitar was a Yamaha PAC012. It sounded pretty decent and it's affordable ($310AUD), but a few months later the pick-up switch dropped out (dunno why.. maybe cos I'm so rough and I enjoy hacking&slashing?) so I bought a new one. And now I'm playing a Squier Tele Custom II. I love the sound of it, everything's great, 'cept I accidently fell onto it once and stepped on one of the tone knobs, now it's kinda jacked up.. It's still good, but I mean, if you're careful and look after your guitar properly, it will always be in excellent shape. Oh yeah, my Tele was $460AUD.

Remember though, when you get an electric you've gotta get an amp too. For amplifiers I'd recommend a Marshall amp, just cos I've got one >=P If you're not gonna play gigs and stuff, just get a little practice amp (10-15 watts).. or maybe 30 watts if you wanna be louder. There's really no point in spending too much on an amp if you're not gonna use it for anything in particular unless you wanna be cool and extremely loud.. or something. LOL.. I dunno, it's up to you~

For an acoustic.. you should head into a music shop and strum the guitars. Pick one you like the sound of. I've got a Fender DG-14S, sounds really good, and again.. was affordable (abt $400AUD). I'm unsure of any of the recommended retail prices, all my guitars were discounted so the prices I gave are approximate.

My advice to you is to start with acoustic! I went the other way around.. I started with electric and I've gotta admit I sound half decent when playing the electric.. but when I switch to acoustic.. I sound like I've never played before in my life. So yeah, I learnt the hard way, hahaha. BEGIN WITH ACOUSTIC is all I'll say.

Basically, just head into a music shop, pick up something you like the look and feel of (like.. if it's comfortable to hold and play and stuff..) and ask the salespeople. They're usually very friendly and very willing to help out. And if you give them a price range that'll help heaps too. If you've got a lot of money to spare, then go for the higher end guitars! And I'm sure that whatever you get -will- sound good and feel good too. I guess that's why they're more expensive hehe.

Have fun and tell me what you end up getting if you decide to get a guitar C:)

Oh yeah, sorry about the essay, lol.

hehe it's never too old to learn!
I was quite inspired by Ah C playing the electric guitar too. I like the silver one she usually uses. I think it's a Gibson.

i think the silver one you are talking IS a gibson...Gibson Epiphone...Ah C's master, Anita Mui gave the guitar to her years ago...

well,i have 3 classicals and 1 accoustic at home...bought the acc. months ago...i'm in the school band that plays every week during chapel(i'm in a methodist school.btw, i'm only 15!:)), joined in as a guitarist but till now, i'm still a dumbass to guitars so i became a vocalist(not that i sing well as Ah C)...so now, i'm gonna strive as hard to be like Ah C, having such good vocals and good skills for guitar!!!
